Today's school system is flawed in many ways. Students are experiencing more difficulties with school than ever before. The students aren't getting all the classes they need, they are falling behind due to their procrastination and the lack of interest in their classes, they are struggling to maintain their jobs and personal life due to school, and meanwhile the schools are experiencing tons of budget cuts, hurting the students even more. Students are now realizing how college is a completely different and more intense burden then back in their high school days.
Due to the budget cuts today's colleges are experiencing, the colleges are no longer able to provide an adequate amount of classes for all their students. Chabot College has apparently already cut 30-40% of their courses. Students are now resorting to piling up inside the classes they are trying to get. A lot of them are not even getting a seat, waiting in class in attempt to reserve a spot for themselves on the role sheet hoping that the other wait-listed students will not show up.
Students are also finding it difficult to concentrate in a lot of their classes. Students have claimed the teachers aren't doing their job well enough and cannot keep the attention of the classroom. Results being that the students are falling far behind in their courses sometimes dropping their course all together. The student are finding themselves procrastinating more and more putting themselves behind, raising the question of whether its the Professors teaching methods boring the students into failing or just the students being lazy and unmotivated on their own.
Another difficulty of being in college is how much it affects your personal life. College can interfere a lot with a student's job, being very difficult to have to commute back and fourth between school and work, causing them to often be late for one or the other. Having a job while attending school also leaves a very small window of time where the students can actually do their homework, causing them to either rush through it and give a lot of the wrong answers or just not even bother with the assignment at all. Not to mention, studying is almost out of the question. In the long run trying to work and attend school at the same time can leave the student either failing their classes or losing their job because of how hard it is to maintain the two together.
On top of all this the schools lately are receiving more and more budget cuts. Due to these budget cuts schools are forced to cut many of the courses which is very unfortunate for the students because with less courses they are forced to have to compete with each other for the courses they really need. The most unfortunate part of this though, is that this is a problem held only by the middle-class students, because the schools not affected by budget cuts are private schools that require ridiculous amounts of tuition that middle-class citizens would most likely not be able to afford. This maintains the cycle that leaves the rich in the more fortunate and wealthy careers because they were able to breeze through their schools much more easily than students are being forced to now in public schools. Keeping the rich on the line to success while those who are less fortunate suffer.
All of these problems and burdens in the school system are really hammering down on college students today. With the lack of classes, motivation, personal time, study time, and with all the budget cuts, students are just now realizing how college is a totally different and much more intense burden then back in their high school days.
